How Many Zeros in a Billion?

“A billion here, a billion there; pretty soon you’re talking real money.”
- Everett Dirksen

Right now the government is spending about a billion dollars every 8 hours! I thought about that for a second and still could not imagine how much buying power one would have. So to help me better understand the concept of a billion dollars, I tasked myself to virtually spend it. A billion dollars could buy:
(all services and employees are for 1 year of use)

2008 most expensive home in the world (Fleur de Lys in Beverly Hills, California): 125 Million
3 personal chefs: 500k
A personal trainer: 100k
2 personal assistants: 100k
Bi-weekly cleaning service: 100k

Other luxurious homes in Atlanta, Miami, New York, and LA: 10 Million Dollars

Own personal 220 acre island off the coast of the Bahamas: 28 Million dollars

The most luxurious 530 foot mega-yacht that holds 60 guest: 250 million dollars
A 72 person yacht staff plus maintenance: 10 million dollars

A private gulf stream G5: 50 Million dollars
pilot and maintenance: 1.5 Million

A fleet of 20 luxury cars
Volkswagen Bugatti: 1.2 Million
Ferrari F430 Spider: 400k
Lamborghini Murcielago: 400k
Mercedes Maybach: 400k
Royce Royce Phantom: 400k
Aston Martin DB9: 250k
BMW 760 LI: 120k
Mercedes S550: 80k
Range Rover: 80k
Cadillac Escalade: 55k
10 more Random exotic luxury Cars: 3 Million

A full high-end wardrobe: 1 million

10 luxury watches: 1 million

A 3 month 11-stop vacation around the world: 1 Million

Funding 50 full-ride scholarships to Harvard: 10 Million

This total only comes to around 500 Million Dollars!! I still have another half-billion dollars to spend. Please comment on other things I can do to get to a billion dollars.
