Plot: A true story about Frank Abagnale Jr. who, before his 19th birthday, successfully conned millions of dollars worth of checks as a Pan Am pilot, doctor, and legal prosecutor.
Ok, I know you are probably like, “what in the world does this old movie have to do with moneyisjustanidea?!” True, the movie came out back in 2002, but I recently recorded it on my DVR and finally got a chance to watch it.
By no means do I condone forging checks to make money, there are too many legal ways to make money! Crime is a form of laziness!!
With that being said, the reason I thought it was important to share my movie experience with you was because Leonardo used a skill that is vital to your success. The ability to talk like the people in each profession. Meaning he spoke the language of the person he wanted to become. Here is an example:
- When Leonardo wanted to pose as an airline pilot he interviewed a pilot. So, when he got around real pilots he could do more than just understand what they were saying but he could also fit in.
How can you use this skill in your everyday life?
If your goal is to start a restuarant, the first thing you need to do is talk to someone who owns a restaurant. If you want to become a personal trainer, you should first speak with a personal trainer. If you want to start investing in stock market, talk with someone who already successfully invests in the market. Do you sense the pattern here? Speaking with the subject matter experts, or as we like to call them, the Mavens in the field you want to pursue will give you a sense of direction.
